What does it take to become a great designer?

What is design? Design is that which lays the foundation for making an object or an artwork. Design in something which sends out a similar message to a wide range of audience because it was intended to serve just the purpose for which it was created. Design is sometimes defined as both the process and the final product of an endeavour to fulfil a personal or professional brief. Design is also about demonstrating how beautiful something can be and sometimes, it is about changing life and influencing the future.

In various other domains, Design can take different meanings but the underlying principle remains the same. Whether you are creating a piece of graphic work, a website, a design for a new product, or even drafting the final plan for a 100 storey building, what matters is that the creative process is everything.

25 most creative examples of doodle art

Regardless of any advancement in technology, pen and paper will always be the number once choice for any budding artist or illustrator. It is with the these pencil sketches that we create great designs. So, what exactly makes a doodle so fascinating even though it is claimed to be one of the most unproductive ways of spending time. Maybe a gross understatement, but once you look at these creative doodles, you will know what I’m talking about.

A doodle is a type of sketch, an unfocused drawing made while a person’s attention is otherwise occupied elsewhere. Doodles are simple drawings that can have concrete representational meaning or may just be abstract shapes. Stereotypical examples of doodling are found in school notebooks, often in the margins, drawn by students daydreaming or losing interest during class. Other common examples of doodling are produced during long telephone conversations if a pen and paper are available.

30 Inspirational TED Talks on Design and Creativity

TED Talks is an annual conference that defines its mission as “ideas worth spreading”. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design. It started out in the early 1984 as a conference, bringing together people from those 3 worlds. Since then, its scope has become ever broader. The annual conference now brings together the world’s most fascinating thinkers and doers, who are challenged to give the talk of their lives.

I think the best part about TED, apart from the quality of their speakers & ideas shared, is the fact that it is all about sharing among the creative commons. This means, their website has a huge plethora of inspirational videos with great production value that are free for people like you and me to watch. There are talks based around advertising, marketing, industrial design, graphic design, and the list goes on and on. The scope of subjects covered is almost overwhelming, but the common thing that bridges them is the creativity of each idea shared.

How to avoid your Creativity Burnout

Creativity is a mental process involving the discovery or associations of new ideas or concepts, fueled by the process of either conscious or unconscious insight. Where does this ‘Creativity’ come from? Is everyone creative? If not, what is stopping them from being so? These are some of the questions that always strike our mind when we talk about being creative. From what I have learnt from my experience in graphic designing and blogging, everyone is creative. It is not a born trait or something which only experienced artists can boast of.

Creativity comes in different forms and not just in painting, designing or drawing. Creativity is just like any other skill which can be learned, nurtured and honed. But, there comes a time when one pushes his limits of working and reaches a point where he is not able to get inspired or motivated any further and thus not able to get any new ideas. This is what is called a ‘Creative Burnout’. In this article, I have tried my best to explain the different ways in which we can seek inspiration and avoid Creative burnout.

The first thing that comes into our mind when we hear about a company or see an advertisement; is their logo. The amount of simplicity, yet creativity imbibed in such logos make them so memorable. Corporations often develop marketing strategies aimed at creating a logo that will become a memory trigger for decades to come. Famous logos have these two things in common: distinctiveness and simplicity.

The more distinctive a logo is, the more recognizable it becomes. The more complex a logo is, however, the less likely it will be that people will remember it.
