Interview with Master Sci-Fi Digital Artist Tobias Roetsch
May 12th
Science fiction is a literary genre that extrapolates from existing knowledge about the real world to speculate about alternative worlds. It always includes an element of the fantastic, since it aims to go beyond what exists, to give a hyperrealistic model of “what if?”.
Exploring the consequences of such differences between what is real and what we think is the future is the traditional purpose of science fiction, making it a “literature of ideas”. Science fiction is largely based on writing rationally about alternative possibilities. The similar context is applied in creating Sci Fi artwork as well.
30 Inspirational TED Talks on Design and Creativity
Apr 1st
TED Talks is an annual conference that defines its mission as “ideas worth spreading”. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design. It started out in the early 1984 as a conference, bringing together people from those 3 worlds. Since then, its scope has become ever broader. The annual conference now brings together the world’s most fascinating thinkers and doers, who are challenged to give the talk of their lives.
I think the best part about TED, apart from the quality of their speakers & ideas shared, is the fact that it is all about sharing among the creative commons. This means, their website has a huge plethora of inspirational videos with great production value that are free for people like you and me to watch. There are talks based around advertising, marketing, industrial design, graphic design, and the list goes on and on. The scope of subjects covered is almost overwhelming, but the common thing that bridges them is the creativity of each idea shared.
