3D computer graphics (CG) art is capable of generating the most realistic and incredible effects which was once claimed utterly impossible. The extent to which 3-D CG can replicate human characteristics is simply breathtaking. With the power of CG art, one could easily mistake images for real life portraits.

Adding textures and adding multiple layers of photo realistic materials is quite easy once you have created the wire frame of your character. However, the modeling itself is the real hard part. If you are trying to create a photo realistic person with all the features correctly modeled and textured, you need to spend hours together. CG tools like 3DSMax, Poser and ZBrush have completely transformed the way we create CG art. Its popularity is ever-exploding, giving more CG artists the power to create stunning digital art, gradually bridging the gap between the virtual and the real worlds.

Modeling and sculpting in 3DS Max and Zbrush. Texturing and compositing in Photoshop.

Final Render 1 GHz processor – 6 hours.

Model, render – LightWave 3d; fur – sasquatch; color balance – photoshop.

This was recreating from the image of a real person. The main aspect – aimed balanced view of the eye. Dozens of test renderings for the selection of suitable lighting and position of eyes.

The hair is actually made of polygons, everything’s done with 3dsmax.

6)Moon Key

Everything done with 3DS MAX 8, rendered using mental ray and textures are all hand painted with photoshop.

3ds max, mental ray, Photoshop, ZBrush

8) Sophia

Portrait created using the new DAZ Studio 3 Advanced with Advanced Shaders.

9) Uber Flirt

Done purely in Poser and Photoshop, post work took approx 9 hours.

10) Elene, 2003

Done using 3DS Max and Photoshop

11) Modern Medusa

Accomplished using 3dsmax,mental ray, zbrush and Photoshop. Rendered out passes from 3DS Max and completed it in Photoshop.

12) Girl in Church

Hair and fur, mental ray of 3dsmax standard function were used to create this. Depth of field was made with Photoshop.

13) Young girl

The base mesh was sculpted using Zbrush. The final mesh was modeled using 3dsMax, textured with Photoshop. Rendering was accomplished using Mentalray

14) Dancer

Maya was used for the basic modeling, Scene Setup, Lighting and the creation of shader-networks. ZBrush was used for posing and sculpting the character. Display Maps in MentalRay was used for the rendering process and Photoshop for touch-ups.

15) Heartless

This was created using 3DSMax and Photoshop

16) Red

This was created using Poser, 3ds Max and Vray. First, the base figure was set up, followed by hair and some of the accessories in poser and exported to Max. Then the scene was setup and Vray shaders for the character. Some additional elements, such as the shoulder spikes were also added in Max.

17) Sibylla queen of Jerusalem

This is portrait of Sibylla Queen of Jerusalem in 12 century. For creating this, Zbrush was used for displacement and normal map and BodyPaint for textures. Modeled lighted end rendered in Maya.

18) Simply Jessica

Created in 3ds Max, textured and high resolution modeling in Zbrush and rendering in Mental Ray.

19) Attractive CG woman with a sepia tone and DOF

The modeling and rendering were done in 3DS MAX 8, then a little fix on the tooth was done with photoshop.
